While there are so many options for low-carb snacks at home, I often like to purchase cheese crisps at the store. They are a great, filling snack (sometimes quite salty).

These can get pricey if you get then all the time, plus having a full bag of Keto cheese crisps for someone with a little self control can be an issue. But when you make them at home, you decide on the amount that you are making – I usually make 2 -3 batches at a time, 16 crisps each.

What ingredients do you need to make this Low Carb Parmesan Crisps Recipe?

All you need really is grated parmesan cheese. I prefer to finely grate it myself, instead of buying pre-grated cheese.

Then you can add toppings like sesame seeds, black pepper, canned sliced jalapeños, paprika or chili powder.

What is important about the toppings is that you need to add the toppings immediately, once the cheese is melted and you take the crisps out of the oven. I don’t recommend baking these Parmesan Crisps with the toppings and the sesame seeds may burn, jalapeños can make the crisps soggy and paprika will get a weird taste if baked on top of them.

  • grated parmesan cheese
  • toppings like paprika, jalapeño peppers, black pepper and sesame seeds

How do you make Parmesan Crisps At Home?

  1. Preheat oven to 400 F.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or silicone baking sheet. I personally prefer parchment paper.
  3. Add a tablespoon of the grated cheese for each crisp and place them within at least 1 inch distance from each other.
  4. Bake for 3 minutes, then remove from the oven. Immediately add toppings.
  5. Let the crisps cool down and remove from he parchment paper.

Can you make parmesan crisps in advance?

Yes, you can. Make these up to 2 weeks in advance and keep in an air tight container or aluminum foil bag.

Does grated Parmesan cheese melt?

Yes, Parmesan cheese will melt, but to a certain degree, after that it will become rubbery. This is when you take the chips out of the oven and let is cool. By cooling it the crisps will harden and form a chips shape.

Parmesan cheese won’t melt like Mozzarella or Semi-Hard Cheddar will. This is why, Parmesan is often used in combination with ricotta or mozzarella in some recipes, because its dryness combines well with the moisture of these cheeses.

Tips to making the perfect Keto parmesan crisps:

  • Purchase good quality Parmesan cheese, if possible
  • Take the cheese out of the fridge for 10-20 minutes before grating
  • Use a fine grater if possible, this way there won’t be too mush air in the grated cheese
  • Do not overtake, these crisps can easily burn
