Watermelon And Strawberry Smoothie – low calorie, fresh, sweet and delicious drink.
Watermelon and strawberry smoothie recipe
This watermelon and strawberry smoothie is more like a summer drink to me, but it can easily be made with frozen cubed watermelon and frozen or fresh strawberries. I also used coconut water this time, which is perfect for people with dairy allergies, but coconut or almond milk also work well.
Adding a sweetener is optional, and I recommend agave nectar or maple syrup. You can also add some chia seeds or a spoon of flax seed to boost that smoothie.
This smoothie is very light and refreshing, perfect to enjoy under the sun. I also love its pretty pink color plus watermelon is one of my favorite fruits, after cherries and blueberries of course.

- Makes a great post workout drink
- It is light, but easy to customize ( you can add a banana, Greek Yogurt, Skir, protein or collagen powder)
- Could be made with frozen or fresh fruit, or a combination of both
- Made with coconut water – which is packed with electrolytes like potassium, magnesium, and sodium, making it an excellent hydrating base for smoothies
- Naturally sweet (while you do have the option to add sweetener)
- Made with a few simple ingredients, that you may already have at home
Recipe Tips/FAQs
- Recipe Add Ins : You can blend in some fresh mint, lime or lemon juice, plain of vanilla yogurt, Skyr or Quark to this simple smoothie recipe. Blueberries or cherries are some optional fruits that could pair well with watermelon. Add 1/2 banana, protein powder or collagen powder to thicken the smoothie. Hemp of pumpkin seeds could be also blended in.
- Fresh or frozen strawberries and watermelon? I usually make it with frozen strawberries and fresh watermelon. This way the smoothie gets the perfect consistency in my opinion. All frozen fruit will make a thicker smoothie, that will not be as pleasant to drink right away (too cold) and all fresh fruit is going to result in a more thin, watery drink. Remember that watermelon is 92% water.
- Why Use Coconut Water in the Smoothie? Coconut water is my go to drink throughout the day, because I love hydrating with it, while staying active. While it is usually enjoyer on its own, it works perfectly in lighter smoothies like his one. It contains electrolytes, has a light flavor and subtle seet
- What to Use Instead Of Coconut Water? Not a fan of coconut water, here is what could be used instead: Regular filtered water (not my best choice), almond or coconut milk, a combination of milk and yogurt, Kefir, any lightly flavored tea or even Aloe Vera juice. Keep in mind that these alternatives will change the final result.
