This blood orange margarita is fresh, citrusy, lightly sweet, and beautiful for spring.
Blood oranges give the drink a deeper color and a slightly berry-like citrus flavor, which makes it feel a little more special than a classic margarita.
I made this while blood oranges were still in season, and it turned out to be such an easy cocktail for Cinco de Mayo.
I’ve included a sugar-free option because I don’t always want a syrupy cocktail, but you can also use agave nectar if you prefer.

What You’ll Need
Tequila — I use silver tequila for a clean, smooth flavor.
Fresh lime juice — fresh is best here because bottled lime juice can taste flat.
Fresh blood orange juice — this gives the margarita its color and naturally sweet citrus flavor.
Sweetener — use liquid stevia for sugar-free, or agave nectar, if you are not keeping it low-carb. Erythritol can work, but it may crystallize in cold drinks.
Ice — for shaking and serving.
Sea salt — for the rim of the glass.
Blood orange slice — optional, but beautiful for serving.

Well, experimenting with margarita flavors has been on my list for months.
This easy fresh Strawberry Margarita is one of my favorite cocktails, it is pretty popular on the blog, too!
It goes well with these Blackened Cod Fish Tacos and Taco Stuffed Avocado.
Recipe Notes
You do not need simple syrup for this blood orange margarita.
The blood orange juice adds natural sweetness, and the drink can be adjusted with liquid stevia or agave depending on your preference.
Taste the margarita before serving.
Blood oranges can vary — some are very sweet, while others are more tart.
Add a little more sweetener only if needed.
I’d serve this when blood oranges are in season and you want one fresh, pretty cocktail that doesn’t feel heavy or overly sweet.
