Recipe Tips/FAQs

  • Can I use canned roasted red peppers? Yes, if you’d like to save time, or have a jar of unused roasted red peppers, you can use them. Just make sure that they are peeled so they taste more pleasant. You can also drain them very well and pat dry with paper towel.
  • I don’t like Feta, can I use any other cheese? Of course you can substitute with for example goat cheese or salted cream cheese, for a similar tangy flavor. You can use Boursin type of cheese, if you prefer. Keep in mind, that feta has a unique salty taste, that pairs well with the sweetness of roasted red peppers. If you substitute the cheese the flavor might change slightly.
  • Could I make these in advance? How to store? Make for up to 3 days in advance. Store in an air-tight container in the fridge.
  • Can you freeze roasted red pepper and feta roll ups? Yes, but I advise you not to. They are going to change shape and may taste weird. This recipe takes less than 30 minutes, if you roast your peppers or around 10 minutes if you use canned peppers., so there shouldn’t be any need to freeze.
  • My rolls are falling apart, how to prevent this? If is best to use “meaty” peppers, if possible. They keep their shape well after roasting and roll easily. Another tip is to not overfill peppers with the filling and also roll them tightly.
  • Can I add any meat to this appetizer? While i’ve never done it, I think adding some thinly sliced ham or prosciutto will make them taste amazing!

Notes

  • Store in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. The cheese might release some liquid. I don’t recommend freezing these, because the texture and shape will change once defrosted.
  • You can use canned or homemade roasted, air fried or grilled peppers. Green or yellow peppers work in the recipe.
  • If you are not a fan of Feta cheese, substitute with goat cheese, Boursin, Ricotta or cream cheese.
  • You can add meat to the filling – ham or Prosciutto are great options.
