If you live in a place like Chicago, where winters are long and chilly and summers are short, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. I’m used to that and really trying to enjoy every minute of summer.
Because we enjoy the hot weather and don’t mind the humidity, there is pretty much a summer party every week during summer. Unless we are traveling, of course.
Summer is the season, when I spend the most time with my girlfriends. We just have more time to get together, when the weather is nice. We meet almost every week and while sometimes we like to go out, we often host home parties. Knowing I’m a food blogger and constantly seeing my recipes on social media and my blog, these lovely ladies know, that they can expect fun and creative cocktails, when they come home.
And I try to never disappoint them. My girls love martinis. We used to go to a local place, that had over 40 cocktail recipes on the menu. It was fun! So many memories and great time spent together. Unfortunately they switched management there and that enormous cocktail list is now gone. And we do not go there anymore.
Living not so far away from each other, it is very easy to get together. And it is even better for me, because I can always showcase my cocktail making skills and also feed them with some of the food I’ve cooked for the blog.
When I host a party in my house, I love to make refreshing and unique cocktails. Since I mostly drink water and try to avoid sodas that are packed with sugar, I always have unsweetened soda water at home. In order to make a great tasting cocktail at home, I suggest that you use soda in a can. I’ve found the Canada Dry Sparkling Seltzer waters perfect for cocktail making. And they also come in a few different flavors, so you can enjoy them on their own.
You can find Canada Dry Seltzers at Walmart, at the Flavored Water / Soft Drinks section. There are flavors like Mandarin Orange, Lemon Lime, Mixed Berry and Cherry Pomegranate. They have zero sodium, zero calories and natural flavoring.
I chose the Sparking Seltzer Water flavored in Mandarin Orange for the Orange Creamsicle Cocktail I made for a party last Sunday. This cocktail is perfect if you like oranges and if you also like to take a break for the ordinary summer cocktails like mojito or sangria. Topped with coconut whipped cream, to enhance the summer flavor.
I would suggest that you use a shaker for this drink and you can make 2 drinks at a time. It is light and refreshing! Add more sweetener, if you prefer your cocktails on the sweet side!
My girlfriends were thrilled with this cocktail! They can’t wait to see what drink idea I’ll come up next with!
Enjoy summer and stay hydrated!
