Honey Feta Orzo – a delicious sweet and savory combination of orzo pasta, feta cheese and honey. Great for breakfast or dessert.
Breakfast orzo
Before you think this Honey Feta Orzo sounds weird, I’d like to let you know, that if you are a fan for the sweet/savory combination, it is definitely worth trying.
Cooked Orzo pasta, with some butter, added to it while still hot, topped with crumbled feta cheese and drizzled with honey.
You can also add a little bit of lemon juice.
If you are familiar with Bulgarian cuisine, you may know that there is a breakfast dish, where Penne pasta (most often Penne, but other kinds of pasta could be used) is served with butter, feta and sugar.
Well I transformed it and made it with orzo and used honey instead of sugar.
Honey brings a different flavor and you can use less of it than if you are using sugar.
This Honey Feta Orzo is extremely easy to make, it takes less than 15 minutes and it is made in one pot.
When I was a kid, my grandmother used to make me this Honey Feta Orzo (with sugar instead of honey and Penne instead of Orzo) very often and while I’m not a picky eater, this was not my favorite thing to eat.
Things have changed since then and now I really like it!
Whole grain pasta could be used instead.
Superfood pasta (like quinoa pasta) could be used.
Any kind of pasta could be substituted for Orzo, but I personally think Orzo works best (at least for me).
Hope you get to try it.
This Honey Feta Orzo requires minimal time and effort to make and the flavor combination is so simple , but tastes amazing (of course if you like the combination of sweet and savory foods).
