  • 1 cup milk — almond milk will work as well
  • 1/4 cup water - warm — 100-115 F
  • 4 tbsp butter — melted
  • 1/2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp yeast — dry
  • 1 1/3 cups flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract — optional

  1. In a small bowl combine water and yeast. Cover and set aside.

  2. Warm up the milk and butter together until lukewarm.
  3. Combine warm milk with the sugar, salt and yeast. Add in the flour. Cover and let the batter rise at room temperature for 3-4 hours or in the fridge overnight.
  4. Whisk the egg very well. Add to the batter. Add in the vanilla and baking powder.
  5. Heat a waffle iron to high heat and brush or spray with oil or butter spray.
  6. Add about 1/4 cup of batter to the waffle iron and cook each waffle (according to the manufacturers directions).
  7. Serve waffles with your favorite toppings.
