Ingredients

  • 4 Granny Smith apples
  • 4 Gala apples (or other apples of your choice)
  • 1 large orange
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1-2 tsp cloves (whole)
  • 6 cups water (to fill the slow cooker)
  • sugar to taste - 1/2 cup

Instructions

  • Wash apples and orange and slice into quarters or smaller pieces. Place in the slow cooker. Add cloves and cinnamon and ad water to fill the slow cooker. Cover and cook on high for 4 hours or low for 6-8 hours.
  • Use a potato masher or thongs to mash the apples and orange. Cook for 30 more minutes. Strain a couple times through a fine mesh strainer. Add sugar and stir until dissolved. Serve hot.

Notes

Adjust the amount of sugar to your taste. I use 1/2 cup in this recipe, if I want sweet cider. If not, I only use 2-3 tbsp sugar.
This cider has a light color, because of the kind of apples I used and because it was strained many times. To achieve a brown colored cider, add 1/2 tsp grownd cinnamon and 1/2 tsp allspice.
