Keto Bagels  – the best low-carb bagel recipe, made with almond flour and topped with everything bagel seasoning. Perfect for meal planning, breakfast or snack.

KETO BAGELS ON A MARBLE BOARD

While regular bagels are definitely not Keto, you can now make your own low-carb bagels at home.

The best low-carb bagel recipe on the internet and of course better and less expensive than store bought.

These low carb bagels come together in 30 minutes and just 5 main ingredients – mozzarella cheese, cream cheese, almond flour, eggs and baking powder.

Topping is optional, but I highly recommend it.

You can use your favorite bagel topping from the store or make one at home.

I love Trader Joe’s Everything Bagel Seasoning, but you can top these low-carb almond flour bagels with sesame seeds, poppy seeds or even bacon bits.

What ingredients do you need to make Keto Bagels With Almond Flour?

  • shredded mozzarella
  • cream cheese
  • almond flour
  • baking powder
  • salt
  • garlic powder (optional)
  • eggs (beaten)
  • egg yolk

How to make Keto Fathead Bagels?

Preheat oven to 415 F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a bowl combine the almond flout (I’d suggest that you sift it to break any big clumps), salt, baking powder and garlic powder.

Whisk eggs. Combine the egg yolk with water and whisk, set aside.

In a separate bowl combine the mozzarella and cream cheese. Microwave on high for 30 second increments, checking in between until the cheese is melted.

Alternatively melt the cheese and cream cheese in a saucepan over low heat or over a double boiler.

Combine the cheese with flours. Stir to combine. Add the eggs. Using your hands knead the dough and make a ball. (Make sure the cheese is not too hot to burn you).

Cut dough into 8 equal parts.

Roll each one into a log and pinch the ends together.

Make sure there is a nice hole in the middle of each bagel, because the dough will rise during baking and the hole will get a lot smaller.

Place bagels on the baking sheet. Brush with egg wash. Sprinkle everything bagel seasoning, or sesame seeds.

Bake for 14-16 minutes, until golden.

Let bagels cool on the baking sheet then serve.

Store in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Keto Bagels

These Keto everything bagels (topped with Trader Joe’s Everything Bagel Seasoning) are made with almond flour.

There is no coconut flour inside.

I’ve tasted quite a few fathead dough recipes that use either coconut or almond flour or the two together.

While sometimes coconut flour produces more “realistic texture” I did not like the taste.

This is why, you may have noticed that most of my Keto dough recipes are made with mozzarella cheese, cream cheese and almond flour.

This dough  is what works for me and my family.

My fathead dough is too sticky. Shall I add more almond flour?

  1. If you feel like your fathead pizza (bagel) dough is way too sticky, but feels hot (or warm), I recommend that you wait for a few minutes.
  2. Cheese based low-carb doughs are generally easy to work with when at room temperature. This why they are less sticky, but you can still knead them.
  3. If you don’t like kneading the dough by hand, you can use your stand mixer. While I’m not the biggest fan of kneading by hand, I’m also lazy washing another mixer bowl and a mixer attachment. You can also use a food processor to ensure the melted cheeses, flour and eggs are mixed well, but then you still need to scrape the dough out of it and shape it and you are left with one more appliance to wash.
  4. To shape the donuts, I suggest that you either oil your hands or have some almond flour on them, so the dough rolls nicely.

So to avoid sticky dough:

  1. Oil hands
  2. Cool the dough
  3. Mix well, use your stand mixer if you don’t like mixing by hand

Can you freeze Keto Bagels?

These bagels can be frozen for up to 1 month. Make sure they are tightly wrapped in plastic wrap.

Defrost in the fridge overnight.

You can make great breakfast sandwiches with these.

Can you toast Low-Carb, Keto Bagels?

Yes, you can toast these Keto fathead bagels in the toaster. Make sure you keep a close eye on them. Spread some grass fed butter or cream cheese on top and you have a delicious low-carb treat.

Texture of Keto Bagels:

This Keto Bagel recipe does not produce chewy bagels like traditional wheat or white flour ones.

  1. Needed more than the 1/34 cup almond flour. This recipe also has spelling errors and is missing ingredients in the list – what is the water amount needed as it’s not stated!
    Bagels were horrible.
Pretty sure the macros aren’t accurate either.

    1. Sorry you did not like the bagels. What spelling errors are you talking about? The water goes to the egg yolk and this is written down.
How can you comment on my macarons, since you haven’t even tried it? This is pretty rude!

  2. Just tried these and they are amazing. I was worried when mixing because the almond flour seemed to be not fully mixing in and flaking back into the bowl but they are delicious. I followed the recipe to a T and baked for 15 min. After cutting in half I put it back on broil to get the inside toasted then topped with smoked salmon and cream cheese. I have been missing my bagels for too long. THANK YOU!

  3. Absolutely delicious. Wasn’t sure what to expect because of my past attempts at keto baking but these are a wonderful substitute. Thank you for the recipe!
